In reality, dandruff is caused by overgrowth of a harmless yeast called Pityrosporum ovale (P. ovale). This is yeast like fungus available in any human skin but when it overgrow it will cause dandruff. This overgrowth of P. ovale happens because the yeast starts to feed on excess oil and dead skin cells on your scalp, this will cause skin cells to shed more frequently and clump into flakes.
