Back pain during pregnancy could be a side effect of pregnancy or it could be another medical or physical condition. If you are facing back ache especially in your lower back and you are pregnant then first of all you should get assured that back pain is because of pregnancy and not due to any other complication. This can be done easily with help of your gynecologist. In case of any other medical condition, you will have to follow separate path of treatment and cure. But if the back pain is because of pregnancy then here are some easy step to minimize it and have pain less pregnancy period

Keep Stress Away

As I mentioned in my earlier post “reasons for back pain during pregnancy” that stress is most common cause of back pain during pregnancy. Stress will also have negative impact on your pregnancy and will harm your body and your pregnancy period negatively. Hence to cope up with this situation you have to fight the stress. If this is becoming chronic then talk to a counselor or a doctor.

Exercise

Exercise is the most common solution of most weird problems related to human body. Exercise will ensure proper blood circulation and keep your muscles flexible. Exercise will also provide strength to your muscles and joints. This will easily reduce the back pain in your spine. But choose your exercise carefully during pregnancy. Consult your doctor or physical therapist who can recommend you an exercise that you can do. Usually cycling, swimming and walking are considered as safest exercise during pregnancy.

Back Massage

Due to changed gravity point, the spine remains always stressed which causes the back pain. A mild back massage with a good cream or oil will boost the blood circulation in your around your spine and back muscles. Exercise followed by proper back massage will ease away back pain.

Right Posture

When weight is constantly increasing at one part of the body, it may create trouble and cause change in posture during almost all sort of physical activities. Following right postures will help to reduce the problem. Stand and Sit straight and remember to put minimum stress on your back while doing any activity. Learn about right postures of standing, sitting, walking and sleeping.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic treatment for spine can be very helpful to eradicate back pain in pregnancy, chiropractic care is considered safe in pregnancy but you should consult your gynecologist before going for any such treatment.

Lifestyle Changes

Pregnancy comes with certain limitation and compromises to your lifestyle. To fight back the back pain you have to make little changes to your lifestyle including

  • - Sleep on your back
  • - wear support hose
  • - don’t wear high heel shoes
  • - don’t bend frequently, use different techniques to pick up the things from the floor

After following all these remedies, you are not able to get rid of back pain then you should consult your doctor. Doctor may prescribe you some pain medications which are safe during pregnancy or provide you with some treatment to ease away back pain. Here are some symptoms or conditions which may trigger a consultation with your doctor

  • 1. Sever pain in back which cause inability to stand, walk, sit or even sleep properly
  • 2. Pain attacks in the back, a sever pain that comes and goes abruptly
  • 3. Cramping pain
  • 4. Rhythmic pain

In some cases back pain during pregnancy may be indicative of some other complications including Sciatica, osteoporosis. vertebral osteoarthritis, preterm labor or septic arthritis. If you are feeling sever pain which seems incurable by yourself then consult your doctor at earliest.

What Causes Back Pain During Pregnancy

 

As a mother of 5 year old kid I know all troubles and strange conditions during pregnancy. One of the most painful situation during pregnancy is back pain. Pregnancy is the time of discomfort and little bit stress and such pain and other complications make the life uneasy. Carrying the weight of the baby and constant change in hormone levels adds to the discomfort. But the lower back pain is the condition which is very prevalent and every pregnant women should know about this condition.

The back ache in lower back and side lower down your productivity and ability to sit or stand comfortably. The best friend during this period is your gynecologist who can assist you with any such problem. But for some generic conditions you should be educated enough to cope up with the situations. Before understanding the cure and prevention for back pain, it’s essential to know the causes of back pain during pregnancy.

Pelvic Expansion

During pregnancy your womb grows bigger in size and that causes the expansion of pelvic bone. After some time the expanded pelvic meets the spine at sacroiliac joint. This causes pain in your lower back, this pain is also known as pelvic pain.

Drastic Weight Gain

It’s usual to gain some extra pounds during pregnancy and this weight gain process is rapid. Your body feel some sort of discomfort to manage this weight. This puts extra stress on the spine as spine has to support this weight. This could be the another reason for lower back pain during pregnancy.

Stress

This may sound strange, but it’s very true that stress level is on it’s high during pregnancy and it has a direct impact on muscle pain and joint pain including back pain. Emotional tension will cause the back pain and this back pain may increase during stressful period during pregnancy.

Hormonal Changes

During pregnancy a woman’s body produce a hormone called “relaxin” which is responsible for loosen the ligaments of pelvic area, and that prepare the body for child birth. The same hormone loosen the ligament of other joints too. Hence the ligament of spine also gets loosen and that causes back ache during pregnancy.

Center of Gravity

As the pregnancy time goes one the weight in woman’s womb increase continuously until child birth. Hence the center of gravity changes for the women. This impacts all poses, postures, way of standing, walking, doing daily activities and also sleeping. All these posture changes puts additional stress on the back, and that causes the back pain.

The back pain may increase gradually as pregnancy proceeds to child birth. But the good news is that there is no relation between back pain during pregnancy and pregnancy outcome. And if back pain is related to pregnancy only then it will go away after the child birth.
