Doing exercise for weight loss and being fit is a good habit that will boost your overall health too. For that we follow some rules for better results. But not all rules are true and helpful in being fit, many of them are myths which every fitness lover should be aware of. Let’s take a look at these top myths about fitness and weight loss.
Harder Exercise Gives Better Results
If you think that pushing your body more will give you better results then that’s a big misunderstanding. Pulling extra weight than your capacity or stretching your body more than it’s limit will not add to your muscles but rather it will hurt your body. Follow simple rules, do one thing at one time, may it be pulling dumbbells with constant weight and go for more rounds, or doing one exercise at one time. Any fitness tool or kit promising any miracles are fake and will not give long term results.
You Must Join Gym to get Fit
This is pure misconception; anybody can get fit and healthy body without going to gym. Gym is a place where you can go and do workouts but that doesn’t mean that workout cannot be done anywhere else. Workouts can be done at any place, may it be your office, your home, public transport or a garden. You just need to learn the technique to push and pull your muscles to make them active. Bodyweight exercise can be done at your home also.
Several Hours’ Workout is required for Fit Body
Doing workouts more than 1 hour will damage your body rather than any help. It’s been scientifically proved by several studies that a person should not work out more than 1 hour. Human body needs adequate rest between workouts. Just keep in mind that workout of 5 to 7 hours a week is enough.
Taking a break will hurt
Again a false fact, as I said earlier 5 to 7 hours a week is enough time to do workouts. That may contain a break of a day or two. This will not hurt your workout regime and will not make any harm to your body.
Weightlifting is not good for Women
There’s a misconception that women will get bulky and develop muscles like men if they go for weightlifting. Actually this is just not possible because women don’t have hormones to build a muscular body like men. In fact weightlifting and weight training is good for women as it will increase the bone density and keep the problems like bone deterioration, knee problems, joint pain and back pain.
Stretching will prevent injury
I too believed in this for so long, and did my workouts considering this fact. But current research suggests that stretching before exercise will increase the probability of injury during exercise.
Machines are better than Free Weights
It’s been believed by several trainers that machines are made scientifically considering the human body architecture. But the fact is that each human body is different hence at times machine can put your body in awkward position and may harm your body and cause some injury. While Free Weights are safer and it’s up to you how your handle it during workouts.
I can burn fat at one part of my body
Women specifically face problems like excess fat on hips, thighs and stomach after pregnancy or during a sedentary lifestyle. And they often believe that by visiting a gym and doing some workouts will remove the fat from that area. This is myth. Sit ups will not burn fat from your stomach and triceps extensions will not burn fat from your arms, it will just make them stronger and give a real shape. And fat burning process is applicable to entire body and not a single part of the body.
Carbohydrates are not good during weight training
The fact is that carbohydrates are required while you are undergoing weight training. It will help to empower your muscles during workouts.
Running will make your legs strong
This is exactly opposite to the truth; running will suck energy from your body and especially legs. Strength of your legs will go down after too much of running. Running is a good cardio exercise but it has nothing to do with strength of your legs.
Being a woman I can understand the consciousness of being fit and healthy. I too visit gym thrice a week for an hour or so. But It’s hard for a fitness freak to get rid of such myths. Revealing the face will definitely help to do workouts in right direction.
