As far as mobile phones and other gadgets are concerned I am bit steady user and brand loyal person. Currently I am owning Nokia N97 mini and wanted to upgrade to a better, wider and slick smartphone. My choice was somewhere in between Nokia Lumia 920, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2, Sony Xperia S and HTC One X. iPhone 5 was not in my wishlist because it’s price bit higher and I am not so great Apple fan.
During my research I considered the following smartphones.
- 1. Nokia Lumia 920 (Yellow)
- 2. Samsung Galaxy S3 (White)
- 3. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Marble White)
- 4. Sony Xperia S (White)
- 5. HTC One X (White)
Here is my take on each smartphone I researched
Nokia Lumia 920 is an excellent smartphone, anyone can fall in love with this mobile phone at first sight. Things I was impressed with were Windows 8 OS, Wireless charging support and 8.7 MP camera. But things I didn’t like was it’s size and weight and most importantly the handling and grip on the phone. The body is very shiny and smooth hence it’s easy to slip and drop the phone from the hand, and due to it’s 185 gram weight it contains high chances of damage. Another drawback, in adverse condition it’s screen is highly exposed to any damage. Wireless charging devices are not part of the product, you have to purchase it separately which is considerably expensive. And one competitive setback that Nokia Lumia 920 is priced considerably high compared to Samsung Galaxy S3. So, 8.7 MP camera, Windows 8 OS and it’s fabulous design and sexy colors didn’t excite me much.
Verdict for Nokia Lumia 920: NO NO at this price, Nokia needs more hard work and think about Android.
Samsung Galaxy S3 is amazing phone with all sort of features you can think of and it’s slick and sexy design is able to amaze gadget lover. It’s giving tough competition to iPhone. Samsung Galaxy and Android is a killer combination. This light weight and super slick phone contains amazing features and access to Android apps. Voice based interaction (S voice), super AMOLED screen, 8 MP camera, AllShare Play feature, smart calling and photography features and many more feature make this a smart smartphone in real sense. From price and features perspective this is far better than all it’s competitors.
Verdict for Samsung Galaxy S3: GO GO, just a caution that Galaxy S4 is coming, so is it right time to buy Galaxy S3? Or should i wait?
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is big brother of Galaxy S3 in all terms, call it features, design, size, memory, colors and overall appearance. There is only one drawback, this is bit wider and taller so somewhat hard to handle and carry, but I found this limitation negligible against all it’s features. Priced bit higher than Galaxy S3 but yet lucrative.
Verdict for Samsung Galaxy Note 2: GO, confused between Note 2 and S3 (or S4!)
Sony Xperia S was also a tough competition to other smartphones. The edge for Sony was it’s brand name, and trust I have for Sony. It’s tough body and glass is really impressive, full HD recording, 12 MP camera, Android v2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system, and 4.3 inch TFT screen are ranked high and gave an edge to this smartphone. But compared to Samsung Galaxy S3 AMOLED screen the TFT screen of Sony Xperia S was not a good choice.
Verdict for Sony Xperia S: NO just because of it’s TFT screen.
HTC One X is another super cool smartphone to consider before making a purchase. Looks good as it’s slick and sexy, good choices of colors, 1.5 GHz Quad Core Processor, 8 MP Primary Camera, 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 Touchscreen and Full HD Recording are amazing features which can attract any buyer. But 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 Touchscreen, no support other than micro SIM and no support for microSD Slot are huge setbacks.
Verdict for HTC One X: Clear NO considering the competitors
After some research I concluded that I have to choose between Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Samsung Galaxy S3 is excellent smartphone loaded with tons of features but I don’t think it’s wise decision to buy it at this time when speculations are on it’s high that Galaxy S4 is about to launch in March or April of 2013.
I will let you know with Pictures on what I choose between Galaxy S3/S4 and Galaxy Note 2. My husband is asking me to consider iPhone 5 too and he has got all the abilities to influence my decision. So stay tuned, will provide more reviews and findings soon.
