I am recovering from severe Cold and Cough, and this heavily impacted my daily schedule for several days. Getting infected with Cold and Cough is very common in changing seasons. And dry cough can worsen the situation. This infection can be also caused by viral or bacterial infections. Rainy season and weather changes are best time for such infections and kids and elderly people are easy targets for such infections.
Antibiotics and Paracetamol are best OTC drugs to opt for in such conditions, but I personally don’t prefer medicines until the problem is chronic in nature. Any relief and recovery by home remedies are best and less harmful compared to allopathic medicine. Here are some home remedies I tried to cure cold and dry cough.
Inhale Steam
Inhaling steam is the best natural remedy for curing cold and dry cough. It will help to stop runny nose, dry cough, nasal congestion, headache, sneezing and coughing. Keep your head over boiling water and inhale the steam, for better effects you can mix some drops of Eucalyptus oil in the water. Make sure you don’t burn your nose while you are inhaling the steam. I used to inhale the steam every day before going to sleep and it kept minimizing the influence of cold symptoms.
Consume Honey, Dry Ginger Powder and Turmeric Powder Paste
This is the extremely harmless yet useful remedy to cure any type of cold, cough and related diseases. This is also very much recommended for little kids as it’s harmless and has no side effects. Take one teaspoon of dry ginger powder, one teaspoon of turmeric powder and two teaspoon of honey, mix it properly and consume it all. Repeat this three time a day. This is magical remedy for cold.
Take Vitamin C
Vitamin C is very helpful for curing cold. Drinking lemon water twice a day is the best way to consume vitamin C. You can also eat fruits like orange, red chilies, green chilies, Guavas, Kiwi, Papaya are some fruits which are enriched with Vitamin C. Fruit juice is also easy alternative to consume Vitamin C.
Drink Plenty of Water
Cold, runny nose and frequent sneezing drops down the water level in your body which gradually causes weakness and nausea. To overcome this situation and boost the recovery you have to drink plenty of water. Doctors always recommend drinking 12 or more glasses of water during this recovery period.
Blow Your Nose
Do not hesitate in blowing your nose in public place or in office, this is very much important to get relief and clean up your respiratory system. This constant cleaning will eradicate cold completely and give your temporary relief each time when you blow your nose.
Nasal Drops
Get some nasal drops to get rid of nasal congestion. I use Otrivin nasal spray, however you can use any saline nasal drops. But make sure you don’t overuse these nasal drops as each medicine has side effects for overuse. Using nasal drops twice a day is safe and it will give you instant and long term relief from nasal congestion.
Avoid Cold Drinks
Avoid any food and drink which cause irritation in your throat and respiratory system. Any cold drink, sour and spicy foods are not advisable during cold. Stay warm and protected, drink normal water or lukewarm water as it will give you soothing relief from irritation and headache.
Gargle
Gargle with warm salt water is one of the most effective ways to cure cold and cough; I used to start my morning with gargling with warm salt water. It will remove dry cough and reduce irritation from your throat. Gargling twice a day will boost up your recovery from cold and especially dry cough.
Hot Shower
Hot shower are very effective in these days of cold and dry cough. Stand under hot shower for few minutes, it will warm up your body and give you relaxation from the tiredness and stiffness caused by cold and sneezing. It will also boost up cleaning of your respiratory system.
I was able to recover from severe cold and dry cough by using above home remedies, and the best part was that I didn’t take any medicine that I personally dislike. I hope these home remedies will help all my readers as it’s easy, simple and harmless in nature.
