Taking enough sleep in night is very much important if you want to stay healthy and fit forever. But today’s young generation is hardly following this advice due to thier busy work schedules and lifestyle. Taking enough sleep is very much required for healthy body. If you are sleeping more than required or too less then in both cases it will harm your body in some way. Currently i came across an interesting research conducted on sleeping habing among US adult citizens. And the results were revealing hence i thought to share it with you to burst common myths about sleeping habits.

If you have irregular sleeping habits, then adding or cutting down few hours of sleep will help you to manage your weight. As per new study, if you sleep more than 9 hours in night, then it will cause weight gain, and in opposite situation if you sleep less then it will have opposite effect. Body weight is controlled by certain genetic factors which are highly linked to your sleeping habits.

As per recent study, researchers found increased BMI in people who sleep less. As per findings, people who sleep less than 7 hours or has higher chances (around 70%) deviation in BMI, while people who sleep more than 9 hours in night has moderate chances (around 32%) deviation in BMI. But both cases lead to weight gain. So this research clearly indicates that taking too much or too less sleep will lead to increased weight, so if you are on weight loss regime, you should take proper sleep in night, ideally doctors advice to take seven to eight hours of sleep in night.

This is a revealation that shorter sleep encourages expression of genes related to obesity while extended sleep will do the same but in lower intensity. In today’s hactic lifestyle and busy schedules people often forget to provide required sleep to their body and this has several adverse effects on human health and body functioning. This will cause mental imbalance, improper metabolism rate, cardiovascular diseases and decreased immunity of your body.

Research also reveals that over past century average sleep duraction has been dropped by 1.5 hours in a night. In 2001, percentage of US adults getting at least 8 hours of sleep per night was 27 percent, this is decreased number from earlier on with 38 percent. It’s evident that chronically reduced sleep duration is closely associated with obesity. This is bacuse sleep will influence your weight by adversely affecting your hormones, inflammation and glucose metabolism. While long sleep duration will lead to heart diseases, insulin resistence and early death.

Here are some benefits of having enough sleep in night

Sleep will keep your heart healthy. Lack of sleep is closely related to blood pressure and cholesterol. Taking improper sleep in night will increase chances of having heart attacks and strokes. While taking proper sleep will keep your blood vassels clean and lower down chances of any heart related diseases.

This is because of differentiated level of melatonin in people who are exposed to light in night. Light exposure in night will reduce the level of Melatonin, which is a hormon responsible for making us sleepy and protecting ourselves against cancer. Make sure your bedroom is dark enough to allow proper Melatonin production in your body.

Sleep is also important for Stress reduction. When you don’t sleep for long time, your body’s blood pressure will increase and it will create stress. While higher blood pressure will lead to several diseases and production of stress hormon will increase stress and hamper your mental wellness. In long term stress will lead to depression. Sleep will ensure production of serotonin. Deficiency of serotonin will lead to depression. And, if you take proper sleep it will add positive hormones and makes your smart. This has been backed by research.
